Not an Impressionist

Today, in 1832, Edouard Manet was born in Paris, France.
Manet was one of the first 19th century artists who painted modern life subjects.
His works bridged the gap between Realism and Impressionism, as he was influenced both by the old masters (particularly Velazquez and Goya), and the Impressionists (especially Monet).

From his known artworks:

  • The Lunch on on the Grass
  • Olympia
  • The Balcony

He died in Paris in 1883.
